Open to any page in the Land of Ampersand, and you will find yourself smiling. It is not meant to be consumed in one sitting. I am keeping my copy nearby to re-enter when I crave a bit of whimsy. The combination of words and illustrations are incredibly clever. Cynthia Correll clearly applied her sense of humor and artistic talents to stimulate the reader’s curiosity. Who knew the ampersand could be so entertaining and engaging? & the world could use a bit of levity right about now.

Very creative and thought provoking. More than once, as I explored this book, I found myself saying - how clever - why didn’t I think of that?! (Especially pertaining to the pearl ampersand picture.)
I love the detail in the drawings. The use of both the thin black lines in contrast with the free-flowing watercolor technique creates a pleasing and relaxing visual texture.
I bought this book for myself, but it’s got me thinking this would make a gift for the creatives in my life. Or better yet, anyone who could use a boost of joy. 🙂

You'll enjoy getting lost in the imaginative land of Ampersand! Cynthia Correll has taken the lowly and familiar form of punctuation for a colorful ride into the realm of possibilities. Her illustrations and flights of imagination transform the keyboard character into a launching pad for a variety of different stories. This book would be a great way to stimulate the creative impulse in an educational setting. Or it can be enjoyed simply for the visual humor, use of color in the illustrations, or for artistic inspiration. This book is highly recommended.
